Law enforcement officers established that in April 2022, Yurchenko took the position of “ataman of the Melitopol Cossack squad,” an illegal armed formation formed in the TOT Zaporozhye region. He was responsible for recruiting fighters into the ranks of this NZF and providing them with uniforms and weapons. The “ataman” also took part in the persecution of fishermen from the Kirillov community.
In July 2022, Yurchenko took the position of “chairman” of the occupation administration of the village. Smirnovo, Pologovsky district. He promoted teachers to work in schools, squeezed land from locals and contributed to the re-registration of property to owners loyal to the authorities.
Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine received a report on Yurchenko’s suspicion of committing criminal offenses under Part 7 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (voluntary participation of a citizen of Ukraine in an illegal paramilitary formation created in temporarily occupied territory) and Part 5 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (voluntary occupation by a citizen of Ukraine of a position related to the performance of organizational and administrative functions in an illegal government body created in a temporarily occupied territory). The article’s sanctions provide for up to 15 years of imprisonment.
After illegal elections in the TOT of Zaporozhye region, Yurchenko became a “deputy” illegal “Legislative Assembly of Zaporozhye region” from “United Russia”.
In 2020, the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea informed Yurchenko of suspicion in proceedings regarding the creation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea of armed formations unforeseen by law.
In 2014, Yurchenko headed a Cossack unit in the illegal armed formation “Crimean self-defense”. Participated in the capture administrative buildings in Simferopol and Bakhchisarai, blocking military units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
