- We once had several cities that had motorball teams. Boys and girls love such things very much. You can see with what pleasure they followed the match. The guys showed their skills today, there were beautifully scored goals and emotions from the audience. Some, I was interested in, attended a motorball game for the first time today. It’s a good opportunity to get involved in spectacular sports,” commented the governor of the Rostov region Vasily Golubev, who was present at the competition, on the game.
The sports club “Metallurg” (Vidnoe) for motorball was founded in 1972. In the same year, the team became the silver medalist of the RSFSR championship and since then has not yielded to its leading position; it is the winner of the 1995 European Champions Cup in France, a 32-time winner of the USSR and Russian championships, and a 26-time winner of the national cup.
“Metallurg” is the base club for the national motorball team, which has taken the highest step of the podium at the European Championships more than 20 times.
