The Drinking Water and Sewerage Service of Lima (Sedapal) reported that this October 6 begins the massive water outage in 22 districts of the Peruvian capital, which would take place for up to 96 hours in four districts.
The measure corresponds to work to expand the service. For it, Sedapal It will execute two connections of enormous pipelines that will benefit more than 4 million users in the capital.
In dialogue with the Andina Agency, the head of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, Hania Pérez de Cuéllarannounced the time when the company will cut off the service.
It is worth mentioning that, last Monday, the minister was present at the Consumer Defense Commission of the Congress of the Republic, where the Sedapal board of directors also attended, to give more details about the massive water cutoff.
According to what was expressed by the Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, the work will be carried out from 06:00 until 18:00 hours, covering a total of 12 hours.
“The work will last from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and, from that moment on, the service will be progressively restored in the affected districts,” said the minister.
The information was confirmed by some Sedapal spokespersons.
According to the company, starting at 06:00, the water supply will be interrupted at the plant. Sedapal, which will lead to the gradual emptying of the pipelines that cross the 22 districts. It is expected that for 08:00 hours, the drinking water service will be completely suspended in the following districts:
Barranco, Surquillo, La Molina, Ate, La Victoria, Miraflores, San Isidro, San Luis, El Agustino, Rimac, San Martín de Porres, Cieneguilla, Santa Anita, Villa El Salvador, Independencia, San Juan de Lurigancho, San Borja, Santiago from Surco, San Juan de Mirafiores, Villa María del Triunfo, Lurín and Chorrillos.

Images of receipts circulating through social networks about an early interruption of the water cut dated October 4 in Villa María del Triunfo, related to the massive cut. Sedapal spoke out to deny said information; However, Infobae Perú was able to confirm that there are receipts issued for the month of September in which the institution did announce this cutoff for those dates.
“The interruption of the drinking water service that will benefit the users of Lima Sur, is scheduled for Friday, October 6 in 22 districts and users can find all the information about it on the Sedapal website. In that sense, we recommend that the citizens of Lima store water in their homes at night, because it is the period of lowest consumption,” Sedapal indicated on October 4, through its social networks.
In addition, there are residents of VMT and Chorrillos who reported water outages this Wednesday; However, the institution points out that these are supply interruptions that have nothing to do with the connection works that begin on Friday.
The company announced the opening of 102 collection centers and the mobilization of 100 tanker trucks to guarantee the supply of drinking water during the service suspension period. However, the number of tankers will not be able to supply the entire affected population.
Despite the problem that could cause annoyance to users, the general manager of Sedapal, Jorge Rucoba Tellourged the population to Don’t be alarmed and collect your water since the distribution of the resource will be given with priority to hospitals, schools, among others.
“Water supply is not guaranteed. People have to collect water in their homes. The tanker trucks are for hospitals and everything that is preferential, such as firefighters and what the regulations say,” he specified. “We make contracts with trucks that have GPS, when we use them for the free distribution of water. However, in this case (of needing more tankers), there are trucks that do not have this GPS because it is not required. For this reason, we are going to do personal monitoring, which will be at the distribution points. It is difficult to find more trucks outside of the 350 that already distribute free water throughout Lima. We appeal to you to collect your water,” he indicated in dialogue with Channel N.
