French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking on Thursday, October 5, at a press conference following the summit of the European Political Community in Granada, announced the unproductiveness of the possible introduction of sanctions against Azerbaijan due to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. TASS reports this.
“Now is not the time for sanctions. They would be counterproductive,” the news agency quotes Macron as saying.
He added that, in his opinion, restrictions could interfere with the protection of the territory of Armenia. The French leader called for continued dialogue with Baku.
Earlier it was reported that European leaders, as a result of a meeting between the head of the European Council Charles Michel, the leaders of France Emmanuel Macron and Germany Olaf Scholz with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, called on Armenia and Azerbaijan for the immediate release of all detained persons and cooperation in the mine clearance process.
