Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia did not start the so-called war in Ukraine. The head of state stated this during his speech at the plenary session of the annual Valdai discussion club.

“Russia did not start the so-called war in Ukraine, but is trying to end it,” Putin said.

He recalled what happened in Donbass before the start of the special military operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
