Putin: The Russian Federation is against Ukraine’s entry into NATO due to the threat of alliance expansion

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed strong opposition to the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO, pointing to the serious threat posed by the alliance’s expansion towards Russian borders. He made these statements during his speech at the plenary session of the Valdai international discussion club.

“We have always been against (Ukraine’s entry into NATO – TASS note), and this position has certain serious grounds, since the expansion of NATO to our borders directly threatens our security. This is a serious challenge for the security of the Russian Federation,” the Russian leader emphasized.
