UN calls for increased spending on climate protection to $400 billion a year

The UN called on world powers to increase spending to combat the climate crisis. By 2030, funding for the poor should rise from $200 billion to $400 billion per year. This was reported in a report prepared for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, writes

The organization noted that it is important to stop fossil fuel production. This initiative is not new, but has remained in the background during climate summits that have taken place previously.

In addition, the UN believes that by 2030 it is possible to triple the capacity of energy sources and double the efficiency of their use, and by 2050 to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions. However, there are no guarantees that these demands will be included on the official agenda.

These steps, according to the UN, should prevent global temperatures from rising 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. This task was set by the UN at the conclusion of the Paris Agreement in 2015. Also, to achieve this goal, it is necessary to check the progress of world powers in combating carbon dioxide emissions every five years.

It was previously reported that September 2023 was the warmest month on record. Read more about this in material Public News Service.
