Mexico City, Jan 26 (EFE).- The head of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM), José Luis Cervantes Martínez, suffered an attack on Thursday when he was traveling on the Mexico-Toluca highway, in the center of the country.
In a message on social networks, the State Prosecutor’s Office reported the attack and stated that the official was unharmed in the attack and one of his bodyguards was injured.
“The Edomex Prosecutor’s Office reports: today at approximately 4:45 p.m. (22:45 GMT) the convoy transporting the state attorney general on the Toluca-Mexico highway suffered an attack that was repelled. Only one of the prosecutor’s escorts was injured. There is one detainee and a long firearm and a vehicle were seized,” the institution said in a statement.
The Prosecutor’s Office itself indicated that the detainee was identified as Julio César “N”, who was transferred to the headquarters of the entity, located in the city of Toluca, capital of the State of Mexico.
According to the first versions, the Prosecutor’s convoy was heading towards Mexico City.
