The Iraqi Shiite militia Kataib Hezbollah, identified by Washington as responsible for the attack carried out on Sunday against US troops in Jordan, has announced that it is suspending its operations against US targets. The militia has indicated in a statement that it has taken this decision to “avoid an embarrassing situation for the Iraqi Government.” “We will continue to defend our people in the Gaza Strip in other ways,” he added, as reported by the Shafaq news portal. Likewise, he has recommended to his militiamen a temporary “passive defense” in case of “any hostile action” on the part of the American side. Kataib Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is one of the militias that is part of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh stated the day before in a press conference that the attack had “traces” of Kataib Hezbollah. “Our teams continue to do analysis, but we know that Iran is behind this,” she stressed. Iran, for its part, disassociated itself from the aforementioned attack, which left three soldiers dead and nearly 40 wounded, and spoke of “unfounded accusations” that seek to “drag” Washington into a conflict. The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Naser Kanani, stressed that “the resistance groups in the region do not receive orders from Iran for their decisions and actions.”
