The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has assured that the future Espai Barça, with the new Spotify Camp Nou as the jewel in the crown, is “a city project”, in addition to being the most important institutional project in the history of the club . Laporta celebrated, in a ‘Tomorrow Building’ meeting, the good “collaboration” between the club and Barcelona City Council in the construction of the project and pointed out that they already have all the necessary permits to carry out its construction. He recalled that the project will be economically self-sustaining and that the income generation that it will provide will allow the 1.5 billion euro loan to be repaid without “mortgaging club assets or depending on member fees.” On the other hand, the financial director of FC Barcelona, Manel Del Río, has highlighted that the environmental sustainability of the future stadium has facilitated the financing of the project, since it has allowed it to access financing sources such as green bonds. He has said that this was key to obtaining capital, since at that time interest rates were rising and there were “problems with the banks.” “Having access to these green bonds allowed us to reach different types of investors that gave us the traction we needed, not only to raise money, but also to have sustainable interest rates with the cash flow that we have planned with the income analysts “, has explained. The manager added that “being sustainable is not only good for the environment, it is also cheaper”, and gave as an example the electricity bill, which before the Spotify Camp Nou renovation was one million euros and which will be zero once the renewal is completed. Laporta and Del Río were present this Wednesday at a meeting organized within the framework of ‘Tomorrow Building’, which will be held between this Tuesday and Thursday at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via venue in parallel with the ‘Smart City Expo World Congress’ . The president of the Col·legi d’Ambientòlegs de Catalunya (COAMB), Mons Badia, was the moderator.
