The millionaire car bought by a former Sonora official linked by the US to the Sinaloa Cartel

Miguel Ángel Morgan Huertaformer director of Urban Image Of the municipality of Walnuts, Sonoraand who was identified by the United States authorities as being the operator of the Sinaloa Cartela vehicle was purchased for more than one million pesos with a public official’s salary, according to the Asset Declarations of the City Council.

According to the public version of the declaration of financial situation of interests, the now former official was administrative coordinator of the Urban Image directorate of the municipality of Nogales in the year 2022, where he earned 302,534 Mexican pesos annually, about 25 1,211 pesos per month.

With that salary, Morgan Huerta acquired a loan to buy a vehicle with a price of one million 380 thousand Mexican pesos, although the type or brand of the car was not specified.

On the Public Information platform on the patrimonial situation of the municipality of Nogales, there are three statements -2021, 2022 and 2023- from the now former official who, according to a statement from the City Council that was shared on social networks through reporters, requested a license without pay, “with the purpose of clarifying the accusations against them in various spaces, always respecting their presumption of innocence.”

“We inform you that, to date, no official notification has been received from any authority against Morgan Huerta,” the statement highlights.

It adds that the necessary steps are being taken to corroborate that the statements circulating in various news media and social networks are true to act in accordance with the law,” reads the text, which states that this administration will not allow or accept actions that violate and threaten social peace.

Infobae Mexico reviewed these financial statements of Miguel Ángel Morgan Huertawho has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Sonora, and in which it is mentioned that the former official began earning 18 pesos per month in 2021 when he was deputy operational director of the Nogales city council.

Meanwhile, in 2023 he ended up earning 23,494 Mexican pesos per month as administrative coordinator in the direction of Urban Image of the municipality.

Miguel Ángel was within the network of people who were identified by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury, of trafficking fentanyl and other drugs to the American Union on behalf of the Sinaloa Cartel that has links with the faction of Ismael El Mayo Zambada.

Furthermore, the former official is the brother of Juan Carlos Morgan Huertaalias cocoahead of the square Sinaloa Cartel in Nogales, according to US authorities.

Three other Cacayo brothers also operate in this network, in addition to Miguel Ángel: José Arnoldo, alias Chachio; José Luis, alias Gordo; and Martin; as well as his uncle Óscar Murillo Morgan ‘Chino’.

“As a former Mexican law enforcement officer, Miguel Ángel Morgan Huerta uses his connections to bribe authorities, while another brother, Martín Morgan Huerta, and his uncle, Óscar Murillo Morgan, maintain sources of supply for illicit drugs. Family members performed other key functions, including, but not limited to, managing transportation and logistics, negotiating trade agreements, and laundering illicit drug proceeds,” the US reported.

The Treasury Department also located other drug traffickers who work for Cacayo, such as his brother-in-law David Alonso Chavarín Preciado, alias Chava; Jesús Francisco Camacho Porchas, El Pilo; Óscar Enrique Moreno Orozco, alias Senry; Ramiro Martín Romero Wirichaga, the Colombian Cristian Julián Meses Ospina; and two other leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel identified as Sergio Isaías Hernández Marín, alias Chavelo; and Álvaro Ramos Acosta, also known as Álvaro Arroz Ramos.
