After the release of fuel values, the dispersion of prices is becoming increasingly noticeable, particularly when comparing prices in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires with those in the rest of the country. While in some provinces premium versions are beginning to be sold for more than $500, in others they have already exceeded $900. That is the case of Missionswhere drivers are close to paying $1,000 per liter.

According to what was reported by the specialized sites of that province, the stations Shell of Puerto Iguazu This Wednesday they increased the value of super gasoline from $586 to $780 (33.1% increase). Meanwhile, V-Power gasoline went from $638 to $836 (31.03% adjustment). However, it was in diesel where the $900 barrier was crossed. The oil company raised the value of higher quality diesel from $717 to $916 per liter (27.75% increase), while regular diesel jumped from $618 to $769.

In some areas of Misiones, premium diesel reached $960 per liter. (@AntonioAndresM7)

In other regions of the same province, the oil company Shell brought the V-Power Nitro+ Diesel to $965, the common diesel to $827, the premium gasoline to $869 and the super gasoline to $779. But even within the missionary territory there is a lot of dispersion. In other regions, Shell’s most expensive diesel oil reached $995 per liter, while the common version of diesel reached $848.

The fuel market maintains large price gaps for years. During some periods, differences of up to 20% have been observed in the value of distillates between the different provinces. Generally the most accessible are those in the south of the country and prices rise progressively until they reach the north. Misiones has historically been the most expensive for many years.

At some point the oil company YPF began with a leveling scheme, with the idea of equalizing the value per liter throughout the country. Thus, it began to apply more pronounced increases in the provinces with “cheap” fuels and milder increases in the most expensive ones. However, the imbalances that occurred during the freezing period and the recent liberalization of prices – in conjunction with the devaluation – completely distorted the market.

In recent days, long lines have formed to load before the increases. EFE

Now, the gaps are bigger than ever. There are considerable differences between different flags and between different geographical regions. While in Missions There are stations that are only $5 away from reaching the $1,000 barrier, in Buenos Aires most outlets exhibit considerably lower values.

In the last few hours, a post went viral on social media comparing the current slate of one of the Shell stations – where premium diesel is $995 – with one of CABA, where the same fuel is sold today for $791 ($204 difference). In any case, the difference is 25%, the same as that observed a few months ago, even during the freezing period.

In other flags the differences are minor. In the YPF In Misiones, for example, super gasoline costs $659 per liter, while the Infinia is $799, the Ultra Diesel is $689 and the Infinia Diesel is $849. In CABA, however, the values are $553, $684, $591 and $744 respectively. That means the gaps range between 14% and 16%.

In any case, to a lesser or greater extent, the differences are there and are much more noticeable when filling the tank. Continuing with the YPF example, the driver of a small gasoline car, with a 50-liter tank, must spend $32,950 to fill the full capacity in Misiones, while in Buenos Aires the same purchase requires $27,650 ($5,300 less).
