“On January 28, Three US service members killed and 25 injured in one-way drone attack that impacted a base in northeast Jordannear the border with Syria,” reported the United States Central Command in a statement published in X. This is the first time that members of the North American country’s forces have died as a result of hostile fire since the restart of the war between Israel and Hamas.

The death of three Americans at Tower 22 in Jordan, near the Syrian border, marks a significant escalation of an already precarious situation in the Middle East. According to authorities, the drone was fired by Iranian-backed militants and appeared to come from Syria.

The text adds that “out of respect for the families and in accordance with Department of Defense policy, the identities of service members will be kept secret until 24 hours after their families have been notified.”

The president of United States, Joe Biden on Sunday vowed to strike back after the attack, which he blamed on Iranian-backed militant groups. “Rest assured, we will hold all those responsible accountable at a time and in a manner we choose,” the president said in a statement.
