Valencia, Oct 8 (EFE).- Valencia Basket coach, Álex Mumbrú, assured that it would be “crazy” and also “reckless” if they had to go play on October 18 at the Maccabi Tel Aviv court in the Euroleague as the war between Israel and Palestine has broken out in the last few hours.

“I think it’s clear that there is concern within the locker room. It would be crazy to go, we have to be honest in this regard. It doesn’t matter how it can be approached, for me to take the players would be reckless,” he said in the press room after his team’s clash against Monbus Obradoiro.

The Euroleague announced this Sunday the suspension of the two matches of Israeli teams this week, that of Maccabi in Milan in the Euroleague and that of Hapoel Tel Aviv against Wolves Vilnius in the Euro Cup, but has not yet commented on the visits of the Venice and Valencia the following week in both tournaments.

The coach said that the situation is “complicated”, that they know of players from Israeli teams who are trying to leave the country and he was convinced that the match will not be played in Tel Aviv. “I understand that the people of the Euroleague, with a little judgment, will make decisions over time,” he said.

He also said that he knows that Valencia has been in contact with the Euroleague all weekend.

“The club is looking after the interests of the club and that is looking after the players. They are in continuous communication with the Euroleague and looking at scenarios and seeing what is best for the players and the club. We are calm because we know that the club is working to find the best solution,” he highlighted. EFE
