EVRAZ cranes will operate without drivers

EVRAZ NTMK began to transfer overhead cranes to remote control. This was reported in the press service of the enterprise.

The project to transfer overhead cranes to remote control will begin in the wheel bandage shop and at the coke production. The program will last until 2024 and involves equipping 13 cranes with the new system.

According to representatives of NTMK, the innovation will make it possible to move the jobs of machinists to a separate room, where joysticks will be installed that duplicate the levers of the crane, as well as monitors and comfortable chairs.

The crane itself and the crane operator’s workplace will be connected by a programmable logic controller. Management will be carried out by video. Safe access to the crane control system will also be organized, including identification of the operator, admission of the crane to work based on the results of equipment checks.

“Remote control of cranes will improve working conditions, make this work more technologically advanced and interesting. It will allow employees to improve their professional skills and competencies. The use of digital solutions is interesting for young people,” said Sergey Druzhinin, Director for Repairs at the Ural Division.
