Quito, Dec 4 (EFECOM).- More than 273,000 people traveled on the Quito Metro in its first three days of full operation, as indicated this Monday by the mayor of the capital of Ecuador, Pabel Muñoz, who assessed that the start-up of this transportation system “went very well.

The Quito Metro, built by the Spanish company Acciona at a cost of more than 2,000 million dollars, definitively opened its doors last Friday, ten years after the start of its construction and after several inaugurations and unsuccessful attempts to put it into motion. by previous municipal administrations.

Muñoz positively valued the station signaling system and also the collection system, in which “some details are still being polished”, while he considered that the “metro culture” can be improved, in reference to the behavior of users and taking care of the facilities.

The first underground public transport in Ecuador consists of a line that runs from north to south through the country’s capital along 22.5 kilometers in which there are 15 stations, a journey made by a set of 18 trains in just over an average hour.

The system is designed to transport 130,000 to 400,000 people a day, although the number of people has been increasing gradually since the start of the operation and many users took advantage of the weekend to become familiar with this new form of mobility in Quito.

It was also facilitated by the arrival to the historic center of the city of Quito during the weekend, where a greater presence of pedestrians was seen until late into the night, something that has not been so common in recent times. EFECOM
