In the Ryazan region, the Council of Veterans and Disabled People celebrated its 35th birthday

A solemn plenum dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the formation of the regional branch of the Council of Veterans and Disabled People was held.

As noted by its chairman Olga Khodina, there are 32 primary branches of the council of veterans in the Ryazan region. More than 600 people participated in the actions they organize in 2022 alone. Despite their advanced age, many members of the Council of Veterans not only do not need help, but also willingly help others, being silver volunteers.

During the plenum, more than four dozen active participants received memorable gifts, certificates of honor and gratitude.

Galina Okhotnikova, chairman of the primary veteran organization of the Tyushevsky rural settlement:

“I stood at the origins of the creation of our organization. Its first chairman in our rural settlement was Pyotr Ivanovich Nikitin, a war veteran. He has always been very active and proactive. He helped with the installation and connection of gas in the village, asphalting the road to the school. During these 35 years, many different events have happened. But I remember one thing the most. Once I took veterans of the Great Patriotic War to Moscow for an excursion. And now we are walking along Red Square, and one of the men – and he was already about 90 years old then – says: “Daughter, but for the first time in my life I am on Red Square.” I didn’t even believe it at first – after all, Ryazan is not too far from Moscow, and he, a man with such a glorious past, has never been in the heart of the capital! This is what I remember for the rest of my life.”
