The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, denounced this Sunday that the mission of the UN medical agency to examine the situation of Nasser’s besieged Gaza hospital, in Khan Yunis, “has seen prevented” from entering the medical center. The head of the agency has not indicated in his message on the social network from southern Gaza. This same Saturday, Doctors Without Borders reported, also without pointing out those responsible, that at least two people have died and another five have been injured, including a nurse, by shots fired at the hospital. “Israeli forces continue their operations in the vicinity of the Nasser hospital. Intense fighting is trapping people inside the building and preventing anyone from accessing medical care,” the organization denounced at the time. In his message this Sunday, the director general of the WHO indicates that “the mission sent yesterday to the hospital, which is currently operating at a minimum, has been prevented from entering.” Tedros expressed in this sense “the enormous concern for the safety of patients and health personnel due to the resurgence of hostilities in the vicinity of the hospital.” “We repeat that health must be protected at all times,” concluded the director general of the WHO before calling for a ceasefire. ATTACK ON AL AMAL HOSPITAL On the other hand, the Palestinian Red Crescent has denounced the destruction of the only vehicle used as an ambulance that remained operational at the Al Amal Hospital, in the south of the Gaza Strip, and “structural” damage to an Israeli attack against the main door of the health center. He has also reported the death of at least three patients due to the Israeli blockade that prevents the arrival of supplies such as oxygen. “The Israeli occupation forces claim that they have delivered oxygen cylinders to Al Amal Hospital, but in reality they have prevented oxygen from reaching the hospital in the last week and have caused the death of three patients,” said the Palestinian Red Crescent. . The group acknowledges that two days ago “after significant pressure” the delivery of 25 cylinders from the Nasser Hospital was authorized. “But the occupation authorities demanded that the cylinders remain near the hospital with the commitment to deliver them,” they reported. “The next day the occupation forces brought only 21 oxygen cylinders to the entrance of the hospital,” they explained. The Palestinian Red Crescent maintains that “it is not true that the occupation has supplied medical supplies.” “In fact, in yesterday’s attack the occupation forces destroyed medical material, attacked staff and detained nine health and administrative workers. They also injured five patients’ companions,” he said. Israel would also be preventing the arrival of the fuel necessary to supply the hospital’s electricity generators despite the fact that there is only fuel left for two days of operation and in the midst of “a siege of 21 consecutive days” against the medical center, and a military incursion occurred on Friday that resulted in several detainees, including workers from the organization. Finally, the Palestinian Red Crescent reminds that in accordance with International Humanitarian Law, hospitals and sanitary facilities in general and their workers must be protected.
