Edomex will open Citizen Consultation to determine territorial limit with Acolman

The authorities of the municipality of Ecatepec have announced a consultation to take place this weekend. The consultation seeks for citizens to decide if they agree to give in 469 hectares from its territory to the neighbor Acolman municipality.

The announcement has sparked a strong reaction among Ecatepec residents, who have united in opposition to the proposed land transfer. Along with the consultation, it is planned to carry out a caravan that will leave from Ecatepec to the city ​​of Tolucawhere the results of the query will be delivered to the Congress of the State of Mexicowhich has been promoting the measure to incorporate these lands into Acolman.

The municipal president of Ecatepec, Fernando Vilchis Contreras has reported that next Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, 127 voting booths will be established in various parts of the municipality.

The consultation will require citizens to respond to a direct question: “Do you agree with the decree of the state Legislature that seeks to strip Ecatepec of 469 hectares of its territory to annex them to the Acolman municipality?”

In addition to the vote, signatures from all participants in the consultation will be collected. These signatures will be delivered to the legislators who make up the Territorial Boundaries Commissionalong with the voting results.

Leaders of social organizations and representatives of the affected communities have agreed to carry out a caravan that will depart from Ecatepec to the city of Toluca.

The purpose of this mobilization is for the citizens of Ecatepec themselves to deliver the results of the consultation to the members of the State Congress. The leaders have stressed that they are committed to fighting alongside the municipal government to preserve the sovereignty of Ecatepec and prevent the dispossession of part of its territory from materializing.

They have emphasized that the 469 hectares in question have been an integral part of the territory of Ecatepec since its foundation. They argue that they will not allow themselves to be deprived of a territory that has historically belonged to their municipality due to unilateral and political decisions.
