Journalist Orlov shared his opinion about Abaskal’s future in Spartak in 2023

Sports journalist Gennady Orlov said on Radio Zenit that Moscow Spartak should not fire the team’s head coach Guillermo Abascal.

“Give it at least a winter to work on it – maybe it will still work. He has a good set of young players. But there are problems in defense, Duarte is not impressive. These are coaching problems,” Orlov said.

Abaskal took charge of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. Before Russia, the specialist worked in the Greek Volos and the Swiss Basel. As the season progressed, he extended his contract with the team with a salary increase. Last season, the Red and white under his leadership came third in the Russian Championship.

On October 1, Spartak lost to Krylya Sovetov Samara with a score of 0:4. The red-whites were already losing 0:2 by the 25th minute thanks to a double by Yuri Gorshkov. In the second half, Garre and Shitov scored another goal each.

After this defeat, several candidates immediately appeared in the media to replace Abascal: Stanislav Cherchesov, Valery Karpin, and Vladimir Ivich.

The ex-Manchester United player named the coach who should have replaced Abaskal at Spartak earlier.
