The Mossos accuse those arrested of crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation, sexual assault, threats and fraud.

The indications are that it is a specialized group that searched for its victims on social networks: elderly people, with high purchasing power and who live alone, and after gaining their trust the ‘hook’ managed to access their homes.

Once in the house, with medications, alcohol and drugs, they achieve the chemical submission of the victim in order to carry out the violent robbery with the help of the other members of the gang, and they use intimidation and threats to achieve their goals.

The investigation began in the middle of last January, when a man reported that he had suffered a violent robbery and that, in addition, he had been the victim of a sexual assault in his apartment in the Eixample district of Barcelona.

The victim had met his attacker through a contact application, and after inviting him to his house, the detainee persistently encouraged him to consume alcohol and narcotic substances until leaving him in a state of semi-consciousness, a moment that he took advantage of to open the apartment door. and allow access to other people.

Later, these other people threatened the victim so that he would give them the money he had at home, jewelry and watches – worth about 12,000 euros – as well as the bank card codes, with which they made bank transfers and physical withdrawals. in ATMs.

During the assault, the victim also suffered sexual assault by one of them.

Days later, the man began to receive calls in which they threatened to broadcast a video with sexual content that they had recorded on the same night of the assault if he did not pay 30,000 euros.

The investigators from the Mossos del Eixample police station, with the evidence collected in the apartment and the bank transactions made, were able to determine the identity of one of the assailants, whom they located at his home in Piera.

Later, the Mossos identified two other people involved in these specific events, and all of them were arrested on February 26 in Piera.

The investigation remains open, since the man who initially contacted the victim on the application and who has a history of similar events has not yet been arrested. EFE
