Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the prequel to the acclaimed saga Mad Maxtitled Furious. The actress, known for her role in Queen’s Gambitwill assume the role that Charlize Theron played in the 2015 film. The new installment, directed by George Miller, promises to expand the post-apocalyptic universe of the franchise. The plot takes place years before the events of the film and focuses on the origin story of the young Furiosa. She kidnapped by a motorcycle gang led by Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth, she must fight to survive and find her way back to her home. The film is expected to maintain the intense and action-packed tone characteristic of the series.

Filming, which was based in Australia, began early last year with an estimated budget of $168 million. The previous installment of the saga, Mad Max: Fury RoadNot only was it a box office success with a gross of approximately $380 million, but it was also awarded six Oscars. The first promotional image of Taylor-Joy as Furiosa was revealed at the Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil and, a few hours later, Warner Bros. released the explosive official trailer.

The cast of Furiosa: from the Mad Max saga It also features the performances of Alyla Browne and Tom Burke. The script was written by Miller in collaboration with Nico Lathouris, co-writer of Mad Max: Fury Road. The creative team includes Miller’s longtime collaborators such as production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt, all Oscar winners for their work on the previous feature film.

The fourth film in the Australian saga was a critical and box office success, grossing almost $400 million worldwide. It was starred by Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, and considered one of the best action productions ever made. Miller initially considered using CGI to keep Theron in the role of Furiosa for the prequel, but ultimately decided against it. The prelude to this project was conceived even before the realization of Fury Road, but its filming was delayed due to a legal battle between Miller and the studio over profits from his work. It should be noted that the filmmaker plans two additional sequels that include Mad Max.

With this new installment, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures seek to expand and deepen the universe of Mad Maxoffering viewers a new look at one of its most iconic characters. Furious It will be released in theaters in Latin America starting May 23, 2024.
