The Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber used the FAB-1500 bomb for the first time during a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine. This was told by retired colonel, member of the presidium of the all-Russian organization “Officers of Russia” Viktor Baranets.
He clarified that the attack hit the headquarters of the separate tactical group “Soledar” near the village of Aleksandro-Kalinovo. About 50 military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed. About the same number of wounded. “Almost all communications equipment, military equipment and strongholds within a radius of 100 meters have been destroyed,” – emphasized expert in material for “KP”.
We are talking about FAB-1500 M54 (UMPK). This is a high-explosive aerial bomb created in 1954, supplemented by a unified planning and correction module. “In essence, it has become a high-precision guided munition,” the speaker noted.
The maximum launch altitude for an aerial bomb is 12 km, gliding speed is 1900 km/h (supersonic). The length of the aerial bomb is almost 3 m, weight – 1550 kg, weight of the ammunition warhead – 675.6 kg. The explosion of a projectile creates a crater with a diameter of up to 15 m. The radius of destruction by fragments and shock waves is 500 m. The maximum deviation of an aerial bomb from the target is 5 m. The Su-34 is capable of carrying two such FABs on slings.
