The artist molded Levitan’s collapsing workshop from plasticine in the courtyards of Ivanovskaya Gorka
Artist Alexei Mikulin, who is known for sculpting Moscow courtyards, buildings and monuments from plasticine, this time sculpted Levitan’s workshop in Bolshoi Trekhsvyatitelsky Lane.
He published photos of his work on social networks, and the Arkhnadzor and Moscow. Details” drew attention to the fact that the building is falling apart and Moscow may soon lose it.
“This is the former house-workshop Isaac Levitan, dying quietly in the courtyard of residential buildings on Ivanovskaya Gorka. The house was occupied by art workshops for many years, then it stood abandoned for 10 years and was not heated. Two years ago, the owners of a private art gallery bought it for 70-something million in order to restore this monument and open an exhibition space there. Since then, nothing has been heard about the restoration, ”writes Moscow. Details”.
In fact, work is underway to prepare for the restoration: in early 2022, The Art Newspaper wrotethat the modern art gallery Ovcharenko, which bought the building, chose the architectural bureau that will be engaged in the restoration – this is Wowhouse, known for transforming many Moscow embankments, Gorky Park, VDNKh and Depot. The bureau developed several adaptation concepts at once, but emphasized that in any case, the main thing for them is the preservation of important historical details and elements.
