VTsIOM estimated the number of Russians who encountered fakes

About 40% of Russians who took part in a recent survey by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) admitted that they had encountered unreliable information, said Mikhail Mamonov, head of the VTsIOM department. According to him, quoted by TASS, their number has decreased by almost a third since March 2022.

Today, about 40% [of respondents]—in fact, maybe more—admit that they have seen or encountered fake, unreliable information in recent months. What is important is that this number has decreased by almost a third. In March 2022, it was more than 60% ,” said Mamonov, speaking at a session of the international forum “Dialogue on Fakes.”

Mamonov added that the main source of unreliable information remains the Internet, and the main topic is SVO. At the same time, he emphasized that the number of Russians who encountered fakes about a special operation has almost halved and now stands at 46%. In addition, according to him, the proportion of citizens who understand that Russia lives in a state of information war has increased – there are 87% of them.

64% – much more than in 2021 – say that they, our respondents, can distinguish reliable information from fake information. This is a skill, a skill is being formed. People do their own double-checking ,” Mamonov noted.

The head of the VTsIOM department also said that the absolute number of respondents considered it necessary to combat the spread of fakes, another 47% were in favor of blocking any false information. At the same time, he added that there are more and more fakes regarding events inside the country.

Earlier, VTsIOM found out that the level of trust of Russian residents in President Vladimir Putin was 78.8%. More than 75% of Russians said they approve of the activities of the head of state.
