Day 15: Two Pan American records and a shower of gold on the penultimate day of the games

Santiago de Chile, Nov 4 (EFE).- The fifteenth day of the XIX Pan American Games left this Saturday a super-powerful mother, a world champion who ran from almost the last position, several records, Olympic quotas and golds that increased the general medal table .

Below are other notable events from Santiago 2023.

1. Medal table

Mexico has finally managed to put two golds away from Canada to take third place in the overall medal table with 48 gold, 33 silver and 50 bronze for a total of 131 medals. Brazil is second, and is missing a medal to reach 200 (63-71-65). The United States is already celebrating by winning the games with 116 gold, 74 silver and 82 bronze with the last day remaining.

3. From penultimate to second

The Dominican Marileidy Paulino, world champion of the 400 meters, gave an explosive demonstration of all her speed and strength in the 4×400 meter relay in which she received the baton for the finish in the penultimate position and with her race she finished second to win silver with a time of 3:34.27.

4. The second of athletics

The Canadian Ethan Katzberg in the hammer throw was the second to break a Pan American record in the Santiago 2023 athletics, an event where this sport had only held the women’s marathon record until this Saturday with the Mexican Citlali Cristian Moscote. Katzberg with a throw of 80.96 beat the record of 79.63 of the American Johnson Kibwe, which had been in effect since Guadalajara 2011.

5. Chile complied

In the absence of the closing day this Sunday, the Chilean delegation fulfilled its mission as a local, surpassing the total number of medals in the medal table with 69 so far, 19 more than those of Lima 2019, the edition in which it had a performance historical.

6. Chin, chin, chin

9. Two-time champion ‘Pumas’

The Argentine Rugby 7 team won the final against Chile 24-5 to retain its Lima 2019 title and went through the tournament with five victories, imposing its status as favorite.

10. Dancing in Paris

The Chilean Matías Martínez won the bronze medal in the B-Boys competition in the premiere of ‘breaking’ at the Pan American Games and will debut with this sport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, since with his podium he achieved the ticket for the fair.
