Guayaquil (Ecuador), Oct 7 (EFE).- Attack midfielder John Yeboah, whose father is German and whose mother is Ecuadorian, has become this Saturday one of the surprises on the list of 26 called up to the Ecuadorian national team for the upcoming matches against Bolivia and Colombia for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The 23-year-old midfielder has developed his sporting career in Europe and currently plays for Raków Częstochowa of the Polish Ekstraklasa, so he will have contact with his compatriots for the first time.

The Ecuador coach, the Spanish Félix Sánchez, called up Yeboah after monitoring him since he took charge of the national team last March, which is why he had to direct the first two games of the qualifying rounds, in which they lost 1-0 against Argentina, and defeated Uruguay 2-1.

In addition to the German-Ecuadorian, Sánchez called up for the first time in his process the defenders Beder Caicedo, Luis Segovia, Piero Hincapié, the midfielders Alan Franco, Júnior Sornoza and the attacker Jordy Caicedo.

On this occasion he did not call up Pervis Estupiñán and Robert Arboleda, due to injuries with their clubs: the English Brighton and the Brazilian Sao Paulo, respectively.

Due to a technical decision, defender Joel Ordóñez and attacker Gonzalo Plata have been left out of the clashes for the third and fourth dates against Bolivia and Colombia (next October 12 and 17).

One of the players who had generated expectation about an eventual call-up after recently achieving Ecuadorian nationalization was the Argentine goalkeeper Javier Burrai, from Barcelona, but as Sánchez has pointed out, he will continue to be observed.

Ecuador will face Bolivia still without points in the standings, the three it won against Uruguay were paid as punishment for the ruling imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), for the alleged alteration of Byron Castillo’s documents in the last qualifying rounds. of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Although Beder Caicedo was called up for the first time by Sánchez to replace Pervis Estupiñán, he played and scored against Bolivia, in La Paz, in the previous qualifying rounds.

Hincapié will reappear with the national team, after recovering from an injury that kept him off the field since last year, where he became one of Ecuador’s figures in the World Cup in Qatar.
