Fires in Edomex consume vegetation in Naucalpan

Firefighters of the municipality of Naucalpan Two new forest fires are being attended to: one in the Rancho Viejo neighborhood, in the Santiago Tepatlaxco neighborhood, on the border with the Jilotzingo Municipalityand the other in the Naucalpan-Toluca Highwayreported the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Firefighters of the municipality through its account in X.

So far no victims have been reported, but authorities are asking for extreme precautions in the areas.

According to the Forest Protector of the State of Mexico (PROFOREST), at the moment there are 7 active fires in the state of Mexico, located in the municipalities of Tenango del Valle, Villa Guerrero, Ecatzingo, Tejupilco, Temascaltepec, Chalco and Ocuilan.

Likewise, four more fires are reported as controlled in: San Luis Ayucan, in Jilotzingo; Ejido Transfiguración, in Nicolás Romero; Ejido Río Frío, in Ixtapaluca; and in Xalatlaco.

In this context, the state government, the 37th Santa Lucia Military Zone, 22nd Tenango Military Zone, National Guard, Federal and State Civil Protection, CONANP, PROBOSQUE and CONAFOR, met on April 1 to strengthen coordination and streamline attention to forest fires in the State of Mexico.

At this meeting, it was agreed to intensify communication and training actions with the general population, prioritizing the communities surrounding forest ecosystems to provide the necessary knowledge in combating forest fires.

The coordination, according to a statement, has as a priority safeguarding the safety of citizens, protecting the natural resources and heritage of the population, joining efforts to provide timely attention, as well as reducing the risks of fires that occur in the state.

Currently, the authorities of the State of Mexico are trying to mitigate accidents with drones and helicopters. These are just a part of the 71 active fires registered nationwide, which are being fought by 2,702 people, according to the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR). At least 20 of these incidents are in protected areas.

It is worth mentioning that in this season, the risk of fires starting increases due to weather conditions, such as lack of humidity, drought and increased temperature, as well as due to the high influx in parks and natural areas.

According to the National Water Commission (WITH WATER) the risk of forest fire generation is very high in areas of Chihuahua, State of Mexico, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala; high risk over areas of Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla and Veracruz.

So far this year, 1,091 forest fires have been recorded in 26 states, in an area of ​​37,408.83 hectares. Of this surface, 94% corresponded to grasses and shrubs, and 6% to trees.

The states with the greatest presence of fires were: Mexico City, Mexico, Puebla, Veracruz, Tlaxcala, Durango, Morelos, Chiapas, Jalisco and Oaxaca, which represent 86% of the national total. The states with the largest burned area were: Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Durango, Chihuahua, Yucatán, México, San Luis Potosí, Puebla and Jalisco, which represent 92% of the national total.
