Barcelona, Oct 29 (EFE).- Espanyol is currently experiencing its worst slump of the season in terms of results after losing consecutively against Leganés (0-1) in the previous matchday and against Sporting de Gijón (2- 0) this Saturday, a result that has removed them from the leadership of the Second Division classification.
The blue and white team, now fourth in the table behind Eibar, Leganés and Sporting, has shown that defense, a subject that seemed reinforced, is once again one of the team’s main points of improvement. In fact, currently the parakeets have scored 14 goals.
The offensive power of the Catalan team, one of their great virtues, has not appeared in these last two games either, in which they have been left without scoring. It is, even so, the second highest scoring team in the championship with 22 goals scored, only behind Eibar, which has 24.
The locker room does not set off alarms and, as always, faces self-criticism. “We haven’t been too successful. We have tried and proposed, but we haven’t been able to. We must try to stay calm and think about the next matches,” Víctor Ruiz reflected after the clash in statements to the club.
The centre-back, like the rest of coach Luis García’s pupils, trusts in the process and remembers that the season is long: “We must try to correct the mistakes so that they do not happen again. There are many days ahead and it is up to us to give the back to this situation.”
In fact, despite being the team’s worst results dynamic, two losses in a row, the current classification numbers do not give rise to drama. The blue and white team has accumulated 23 points in the table and the first places, with the day yet to be completed, are two behind. In a match everything can change again.
In any case, no one at Espanyol hides that the demand of the project is maximum. Anything other than going up to the First Division will be a failure and they constantly remember that the path will not be easy nor will it be defined in October. The equality is maximum: five teams separate the first from the ninth in the classification.
Espanyol is forced to turn the page and focus now on the Copa del Rey match against the Messenger. The match will serve to give minutes to the less common players before receiving Eibar, a team from the noble zone, next Friday, November 3, at 9:00 p.m., at the Stage Front Stadium. EFE
