“I am also happy because the results in Argentina were good, I am very happy, I think there is a person there in Rome who is also happy,” said the president in his daily press conference.
His statements come after the surprise of Massa, current Minister of Economy of Argentina, who won the first round with 36.68% of the votes against the libertarian Javier Milei, who obtained 29.98%.
Both must face each other in the second electoral round on November 19 to preside over Argentina in the period 2023-2027.
Although the Mexican president did not delve into his statements now, he had already criticized Milei after being the most voted in the PASO (primaries, open, simultaneous and mandatory) last August, when he made reference to the rise of Hitler in Germany when commenting on his victory. .
The libertarian has sparked controversy for proposals such as dollarizing Argentina’s economy, eliminating the central bank and liberalizing the sale of organs, but López Obrador pointed out in September that the only difference between Milei and other conservatives is that he is not hypocritical.
The Mexican president has maintained close relations with the current president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, whom he calls a “friend” and whom he has supported in his fight to manage the debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
