Adolfo Gomez Hernandezsenator of the National Regeneration Movement (Brunette), exploded when asked to pay for access to Monte AlbanOaxaca.

The event occurred on October 12 when the legislator wanted to enter the archaeological zone to record a message, without prior notice.

A manager attended to the Morenista and explained: “We have no news about that, but they generally notify us in advance to be prepared.”

However, Gómez insisted on entering without paying. When the employees demanded that he cover the fee, he became upset and assured that he did not have to pay a fee to enjoy something that was built by his ancestors.

How am I going to pay for something my ancestors built? Excuse me, I’m not, I’m not going to pay. I’m just not going to pay,” she exclaimed.

After making it clear that he would not pay, the senator went to the entrance to gain access, but was unable to do so because the turnstile was disabled.

After not being able to enter, he presented a second argument for not paying. His explanation was: “I am not going to do it simply because it is Resistance Day, against the invasion, against the looting of our culture.”

Finally Gómez was able to enter with his team, without making the corresponding payment and amidst applause from the supporters who accompanied them. After that he stated that he would not touch anything in the archaeological zone.

Prior to the altercation with personnel from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), the senator identified himself as mixtec and assured that he would be in Monte Albán for only 10 minutes to give a “message of resistance.”

Furthermore, Gómez warned that after recording his message he would return to talk about the situation of the indigenous people who work in the archaeological zone, he mentioned being particularly interested in knowing how many of them work at the site and what their salary is.

The recording caught attention on social networks, where dozens of users criticized the senator for refusing to pay for the site’s conversation and also for allegedly trying to take advantage of his public position for personal benefit. Some even questioned his identity.

“So that what their ancestors built can be preserved! It really is difficult for them to think”, “They believe that because they hold a political position, they should be paid homage…”, “Is the last name Gómez Mixtec? From what I see and understand, the senator is mestizo, like the vast majority of Mexicans, whose ancestors actually come from the native peoples and the Spanish, who are also his ancestors” or “Political arrogance at the highest level”, were some of the comments on the network.

The senator for Morena shared the video he recorded at the archaeological site on social networks. As he mentioned to the INAH workers, in the recording he sent a message regarding the date, in the company of indigenous people who support his political career.

“We come to make a declaration to the world, that the October 12 is the Day of Resistance of all the indigenous peoples of America.531 years ago the invaders arrived, they looted us, they killed us, they subjected us to fire and blood. However, our descendants who survived managed to take root so deeply that we stand and say: We resist until we recover all our rights,” was part of his speech.

Likewise, the legislator committed to seeking from the Senate so that indigenous peoples have employment opportunities throughout the country.

Until now he has not taken a position regarding the altercation he had with INAH staff before recording his message. However, citizens did not hesitate to remind him of the matter.
