Mexico City, Oct 7 (EFE).- The Government of Mexico condemned this Saturday “the attacks suffered by the people of Israel” by the Islamist group Hamas from Gaza and demanded “the cessation of unnecessary violence”, after the clashes which have so far left at least 198 Palestinians and more than 100 dead in Israel.

This was indicated in a statement by the Mexican Foreign Ministry while expressing its condolences to the families of the victims.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE, Chancellery) condemns the attacks suffered by the people of Israel with the regrettable loss of human lives,” indicated the Mexican agency.

In the same way, he added, “calls for an end to this inappropriate violence, in order to avoid an escalation that causes greater damage and suffering to the civilian population.”

The Mexican Government considered it “indispensable” to resume the processes of “direct and good faith” negotiations between both nations, while preliminary reports in the Gaza Strip point to almost 200 deaths and more than 1,160 injured by the attacks.

“The above, within the framework of the two-state solution, recognizing the right of Israel and Palestine to coexist in peace, within secure, mutually agreed upon and internationally recognized borders, in accordance with the resolutions adopted by the United Nations,” indicated the department in charge of Alicia Bárcena.

Israel declared itself in a state of war this Saturday after the launch of rocket missiles and the infiltration of the Islamist movement Hamas into Israeli territory with an unprecedented surprise attack.

“Citizens of Israel, we are at war. Not in an operation, not in rounds of combat, in a war,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned after the most recent attack.
