The general secretary of the PSN and president of the Government of Navarra, María Chivite, has stated that “Europe is risking its future as a society on June 9” and has shown her support for the socialist candidate for the leadership of the European Commission, Nicolas Schmit. Chivite has attended the Congress that the European Socialist Party is holding this weekend in Rome on the occasion of the upcoming European elections. “In the next European elections we are playing the role that the extreme right will play in the future and its advance may mean for Europe a setback in the rights and freedoms acquired until now,” she warned in a statement. Chivite has stated that the Socialist Party of Navarra, “with its proposals and management experience” can “contribute to the project that exists for the whole of Europe.” “Our commitment is to work locally and regionally to jointly build the great project of the green, digital and egalitarian Europe in which we believe,” she said. The socialist has considered that “it is very important that all social democrats unite and continue to support progressive policies that make Europe remain social, sustainable and democratic.” In this sense, she has stressed that “a Europe is needed, which, as Navarra already does”, is committed to “public policies that combine social, economic and environmental progress.” “Policies to unite, to build, to coexist, not to separate, which is what some are looking for with their strategy of delegitimization, polarization and questioning of the European project and its nuclear policies,” she criticized. María Chivite has encouraged candidate Schmit to continue working on the issues that “concern citizens.” “We are not going to be distracted with sterile debates by those who precisely want to make our proposals invisible, because they know they work,” she added.
