Mexico, Nov 9 (EFE).- Trae Young scored 41 points this Thursday to tie Luka Doncic’s record in Mexico and give the Atlanta Hawks a 120-119 victory over the Orlando Magic.

In the 32nd NBA game in Mexico, more than any nation outside the United States and Canada, Young equaled what Doncic, of the Dallas Mavericks, did in 2019 when with 41 points he set a record for a game in the Latin American country and led the Mavs to a victory over the Detroit Pistons.

For the Magic, the best scorer was Jalen Suggs, with 21 points.

Orlando came from behind in the first quarter, in which it was down by up to 11 points in the first minutes, but, thanks to an attack in the paint led by the Italian-American Paolo Banchero and the Georgian Goga Bitzade, with eight units each, managing to go into the second quarter with a 34-34 tie.

The Magic struggled to have the ball at the beginning of the set, something that the Hawks capitalized on, who had Trae Young scoring 12 points, six of them by making two of the three triples he attempted.

In the second reel, the story was the same. Atlanta took a comfortable lead, now 10 points, and after that the Magic settled down to shorten the deficit to 73-69 at halftime.

Atlanta’s offense was led again by the star of the night, Young, who had a 21-point performance, again with two converted long-distance shots.

Orlando once again focused on attacking the paint in the third quarter to finish a period with an advantage for the first time, going 98-93 up in the final 12 minutes.

The Magic were led by six points off Cole Anthony’s bench and a defense that limited Young to just two points, with which Atlanta lost its strength to stay ahead on the scoreboard.

In the last quarter, it was now Atlanta that overcame a deficit in the last two minutes of the game, in which Young broke the record of Doncic, for whom he was traded from the Mavs to the Hawks in the 2018 Draft.

Trae converted a free throw that made the game 117-117 with one minute and three seconds left, after which Dejounte Murray made it 119-117 with a triple.

It was the Hawks’ first game in Mexico, while the Magic played in the country for the fourth time.
