Sergio Massa has been meeting since minutes before 2:30 p.m. with the governors who respond to the ruling party, with whom they analyze the results of last Sunday’s elections and adjust the strategy for the upcoming runoff on November 19 with the libertarian candidate Javier Milei.

The conclave is taking place at the Federal Investment Council, located on San Martín Street in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, a few blocks from the Casa Rosada, and its start was scheduled for 1:00 p.m., although it started late. The provincial leaders were a key piece in anointing Massa at the beginning of July as the representative of the Peronist unity at a time when there was an internal bid within that space and they also promoted the comeback in the general elections after third place in the STEP of August.

At the head of the table at the CFI also sits the Minister of the Interior and campaign manager, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro and the running mate of the Minister of Economy, Agustín Rossi. According to sources from the Government House, they committed their assistance Axel Kicillof (Buenos Aires), Raul Jalil (Catamarca), Mariano Arcioni (Chubut), Oscar Herrera Ahuad (Missions), Ricardo Quintela (The Rioja), Sergio Ziliotto (The Pampa), Gildo Insfran (Formosa), Juan Manzur (Tucumán), Gustavo Bordet (Between rivers), Jorge Capitanich (Chaco), Gerardo Zamora (Santiago del Estero), Alicia Kirchner (Santa Cruz), Gustavo Melella (Land of Fire), Sergio Uñac (San Juan), Omar Perotti (Santa Fe), Alberto Rodríguez Saá (Saint Louis), Omar Gutierrez (Neuquén) and also Arabela Carreras and Alberto Weretilneck (current and elected from Río Negro).

Gustavo Bordetgovernor of the province of Entre Ríos, spoke at a press conference before the meeting between provincial leaders and explained that the message sought to be given with the unity photo is that of “organization in all territories so that Massa can be the president of Argentina”.

In this regard, he completed: “To work in a consolidated and committed manner so that we can convince citizens that Sergio Massa’s proposal is what will enable Argentina to embark on a path of order and national unity that is needed to be able to seal sterile differences and govern with the best in each political space, as our candidate said.

Then, the Entre Ríos governor considered that the electoral pact between Patricia Bullrich and Javier Milei is “regrettable”. And along those lines, he went deeper: “It is an opposition issue but I find it regrettable that in a short time the position can be diametrically changed. This speaks of the lack of solidity of a political proposal, and if something changes so quickly and the popular will of hundreds of thousands of citizens expressed is mocked, changing their proposal and government program…”

Asked by a journalist about whether the alliance between the president of the PRO and the libertarian candidate seems threatening to the aspirations of the ruling party in the second round, Bordet was blunt and responded: “More than threatening, it seems like a regrettable formula to me. Because after the very harsh and offensive epithets that I had not heard in 40 years of democracy, they can be forgiven in a matter of 24 hours, it seems to me an absolute falsehood”.

For your part Alberto Weretlineckelected governor of Río Negro, acknowledged that he has “many expectations” for the meeting between provincial leaders, because he understands that it is printed “more federalism”.

“We spoke many times about the convenience for the nation and the country of Massa being our president. We are going to work territorially for that. These four years we supported most of the cries that were raised to us,” he highlighted.

The governor of San Luis, Alberto Rodríguez Saáagreed with Weretlineck’s position by admitting that the meeting with provincial leaders generates ““A lot of joy, enthusiasm and hope.”

During his dialogue with the press, the Puntano president valued Massa’s qualities to aspire to the Presidency. “There is a new, young leadership that accepts the challenges of the times. The topic of national unity is very interesting. I understand that she is pivoting on that issue, that we always have her very neglected,” she said.

Regarding the rapprochement between Milei and Bullrich, the Rio Negro president pointed out that, with their alliance, “they destroyed everything they had told the Argentine people”.

“It is clear what a united nation with a country project is versus a question of personal convenience. And it does not threaten the official formula,” she stated.

Sergio Uñacgovernor of the province of San Juan, assured the press that the result obtained by Massa in the general elections was what was expected within the ruling party, and he was “enthusiastic” for the runoff.

Asked about the breakup of Together for Change, Uñac preferred to be cautious but did consider that the division of the opposition coalition favors Unión por la Patria. “It makes the ruling party competitive and with an electoral advantage. We are united. We have improved results in many provinces,” he noted.

Finally, the San Juan president announced that Massa will contact Juan Schiaretti, former presidential candidate for Hacemos por Nuestro País, to add him to his work team for the second round. “Schiaretti will surely be summoned by Massa. Surely a series of conversations will begin, among which Schiaretti will be involved,” he said.

The meeting was already agreed upon a couple of days ago and will take place after Massa gathered in La Plata together with the Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof the 67 mayors of that province, winners with the Union for the Homeland seal in the elections, also as a sign of unity and that it will take a last effort from everyone to obtain victory in the runoff in a month.

From the massist environment they maintain that the planned agenda includes the analysis “from a works plan to that of different government and economic programs.”

Massa will give details about the safe cities program, will discuss a new Fiscal Pact, and also about the expansion of the railway network, the simplification of taxes, as well as a comprehensive analysis of the Works Plan for the provinces. In addition, he will talk about “the positive impact” of the modification of the income tax in the different provinces.

In the CFI it will be made clear that “nothing has been won yet” and that “we must work harder than ever” in search of the votes that ensure a favorable result for Unión por la Patria. Thanks to the contribution and more active participation of the governors in the last stretch of the campaign, they managed to reverse the election, especially in the northern districts of the country, and they are aiming towards that goal.

The one who will play a central role in the remaining days of the runoff is Juan Manzur from Tucumán, who commands the strategy of the provincial heads of the northeast and northwest of Argentina. That is why on Sunday it was possible for districts such as Tucumán and La Rioja to reverse the PASO trend and there was also significant growth in other territories such as Santiago del Estero, Salta and Chaco.

The meeting with the governors will take place while the opposition is going through a process of cracking and internal fights after the announcement of the candidate of Together for Change, Patricia Bullrich, who together with the radical Luis Petri announced their support for Milei for the bid on December 19. November.

Now an attempt will be made to give a new show of unity and support to the Peronist candidate for whom the governors agreed. There will be a new photo for the album of the presidential candidate, who supported Unión por la Patria in this electoral process and who after Sunday’s victory where he got more than 1,700,000 votes from Milei, consolidated himself as the political leader of the space .

Massa insisted on the campaign in his call for a government of national unity, a message shared by the provincial chiefs. The search for the vote of the radicals who opted for Together for Change seems to be one of the main objectives, something that was already made explicit in the meeting with the Buenos Aires mayors.
