Espadas calls for the “immediate resignation” of the director of the García Lorca Board of Trustees who questioned historical memory

The general secretary of the PSOE-A, Juan Espadas, has demanded the “immediate resignation” of the new director of the García Lorca Board of Trustees, Antonio Membrilla, and has highlighted that this appointment “demonstrates for the umpteenth time the contempt that the Andalusian PP has for historical memory and culture”. In a message published on his ‘X’ profile (formerly Twitter), Espadas has crossed out Membrilla’s designation as “unacceptable”, alluding to the position expressed in 2020 by the ‘popular’, who made reference in a publication in this social network to democratic memory as “hysterical nonsense”, as reported by El Plural. Membrilla apologized to those who were “offended” or who “misinterpreted” the message, which he decided to delete from his profile. “There was enough suffering in episodes as tragic as the Civil War not to honor the memory of all those who died,” explained the PP spokesperson in the Armilla City Council through ‘X’, where he also noted that he is “grandson of two grandparents who lived through the War from different sides”, being “both victims” whom he “never” saw “hate”. For his part, the socialist leader has claimed that García Lorca “is part of our universal legacy and does not deserve so much indignity and lack of respect.” “From the PSOE of Andalusia and Granada we demand the immediate resignation of Antonio Membrilla as director of its Board of Trustees,” said Espadas, who has also “invited” the users of ‘X’ to join a petition for signatures with the objective to “stop this outrage.” In addition to the PSOE, the Granada Truth, Justice and Reparation Association has demanded the “immediate dismissal” of him as director of the García Lorca Board of Trustees after considering his comments on social networks as “a mockery of the victims of Francoism.” Likewise, the parliamentarian of “Por Andalucía” for Granada, Alejandra Durán, has stated that Membrilla “is not qualified to lead the Board of Trustees” as he is “a person who mocks memory.”
