ERC warns Sánchez: if he wants to govern he must comply with his agreements and negotiate a referendum

Barcelona, Jan 6 (EFE).- ERC spokesperson, Raquel Sans, has warned the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, that if he wants to continue governing he must “fulfill his agreements” and open a second phase of negotiation with the independence movement. with the referendum on the table, since otherwise the approval of “laws, budgets and parliamentary stability” of the Executive may be jeopardized.

In an interview with EFE, the independence leader analyzed the situation of the pacts reached with the PSOE for Sánchez’s investiture, the amnesty law, the negotiation table between both parties or regional financing, while ruling out proposals from the PSC such as the reform of the Statute or a Catalan Tax Consortium, which he has called “past screens” and “half measures.”

Sans has admitted that, for now, the Republicans see no reason to distrust the PSOE, since, in his opinion, steps forward are being taken in the different folders, such as the processing of the amnesty, the “progress” towards the referendum and the transfer of Rodalies. “But we will see if the PSOE keeps its word,” he pointed out.

And what will happen if Esquerra detects that the socialists, for example, will not agree to negotiate the referendum within the framework of the dialogue table? “What we understand is that if the PSOE wants to govern in the State, it must comply with the pacts with ERC,” he responded.

Some pacts that pass, he said, through the approval of the amnesty and “opening the second phase of resolution of the political conflict”, in which ERC “will put the referendum on the table, because it is the most democratic and most inclusive proposal” , through the Clarity Agreement that the Catalan president, Pere Aragonès, will propose.

But they also involve addressing the improvement in the financing of Catalonia that puts an end to the “fiscal deficit of 22,000 million euros” and that allows a “dignified and fair” system, although in no case “unsupportive.” “No one says that there should not be a solidarity quota, but that it is fair,” the spokesperson clarified.

Convinced then that the PSOE has “signed” some commitments and will fulfill them, Sans has been clear when asked about how ERC will act in Congress if non-compliance begins to occur: “Well, from there there are laws, there are budgets and there is everything.” “parliamentary stability – he suggested -. ERC has not given a blank check. It has given support in exchange for a series of clearly specified issues and it is the PSOE who has to keep the word given.”

In any case, after the meeting between Sánchez and the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, at the end of last December in Barcelona, ERC now also awaits the next pending meeting between both parties and with an international verifier, as well as the one in that Sánchez and Oriol Junqueras will meet.

The Republicans want to maintain “discretion” regarding these meetings, since they consider that, for it to bear “fruit”, the negotiation must be “away from the media focus” and “be more focused on the results than on the photographs”, in a veiled criticism of Junts per Catalunya.

Nor has Sans wanted to reveal the name of the verifier yet, since he recalled that this international support for the Republicans “has existed” for a long time; What he has confirmed is that the general secretary of the party, Marta Rovira, “will continue to be involved” in this entire negotiating process.

With their cards on the table, the Republicans instead regret that PSOE and PSC do not define their plan for Catalonia. “What we would appreciate is if, beyond words, the first opposition party had a proposal, beyond saying that improvements in financing are needed,” he said.

Along these lines, Sans has admitted that proposals from the PSC leader such as the reform of the Catalan Statute fall short “without any doubt”, in contrast to the referendum defended by ERC. “We can agree on the question, date, how the result (of the referendum) is applied… there are many things to negotiate. But the reform of the Statute is a past screen.”

The same assessment has been made regarding the fact that Salvador Illa has opened the door to a Tax Consortium – which is already included in the Statute itself – among the measures to improve financing. “The PSC, once again, remains half-measured.”

Finally, Sans has insisted that his party “does not close the door” to presenting amendments to the amnesty law, although it will only do so “if there is a sufficient majority to approve them.”

“We will be very careful, because we are very aware of everything we are at stake with this law and the judicial offensive that will occur,” he remarked. “We are concerned that the law has as few loopholes as possible.”

Especially in the face of a PP and Vox that “will do everything to go against this law”, through “all possible tools at their disposal and with a State that plays in their favor.” “They play with all the players and even with the referee,” he said. EFE
