More than 200 radical leaders published a statement this Thursday in which they called to vote against Javier Milei in the ballot that will be held on November 19, in a clear suggestion to choose by the ballot of Sergio Massa. Although they did not explicitly support the Unión por la Patria candidate, the coreligionists reported that their objective is “promote” a positive vote.

“We are members of the Radical Civic Union of various generations. We understand and agree with the letter and spirit of the position taken by the highest authorities of the National Committee in their document and subsequent press conference on October 25,” the radicals clarified, referring to the conference they led Gerardo Morales and Martin Lousteau to express the neutrality of the centenary party in the runoff and give freedom of action when going to vote.

In that sense, those who signed the document – among them Federico Storani and Maria Luisa Storanivice president of the National Committee of the UCR – considered that “within the freedom of action that party unity protects, we are firmly convinced that each radical must vigorously repudiate offenses to the party and their achievements by the candidates for president and vice president of La Libertad Avanza.”

“The destruction of radicalism has a purpose: to affirm anti-democratic positions that the UCR has always fought. The rude insults to Hipólito Yrigoyen already Raul Alfonsin They intend to eliminate the great radical contributions to the coexistence of Argentines and discredit with falsehoods their top leaders, who no longer belong only to radicalism but to Argentine society. They question Alfonsín’s historic decision with CONADEP and the Federal Chamber to judge and condemn the crimes of the dictatorship, the basis of the Democratic Pact that banished coups d’état. Whoever slanders our heroes in such a way considers us his enemies. “Civilization or barbarism, proposed that great president who was Domingo Faustino Sarmiento,” they added.

They also highlight: “For the only time someone dares to disqualify the very idea of social justice, of reparation for the dispossessed. Are opponents of the very bad current government and we will be opponents of anyone who triumphs in the runoff. The Argentine people have placed us in the opposition and we will be there. We have severe reservations with the official candidate and we understand those who vote blank. To date, none of us have voted for candidates outside the UCR. As a lesser evil, in self-defense, coexistence and Democracy, we promote a positive vote next Sunday, November 19, to defeat the La Libertad Avanza formula that threatens radical values and Argentine society.”

Before the National Committee resolved neutrality, María Luisa Storani had announced that she would bring the idea of “voting for Sergio Massa” to the national table, but she clarified: “I don’t know if it will be shared by the rest of the members of the table. My only position is against Milei-Villarruel. It is a space where we are going to debate this, but the decision will not be made tomorrow either. We have different positions with people from other provinces, because they are different realities.”
