With the atmosphere of “Stranger Things,” Netflix’s upcoming Korean series brings romance and horror

After his Hollywood debut as Prince Yan in The MarvelsKorean actor Park Seo Joon stars in the new Netflix series where a terrifying creature emerges from an enigmatic hospital. The main duo is completed with Han So Heeversatile actress who has covered genres of romance, family drama, revenge and action with productions such as Even so and My name. Both figures become allies in The monster of old Seoul (Gyeongseong Creature)an ideal production for fans of the irresistible mix of horror, fantasy and suspense.

With an atmosphere reminiscent of Stranger Things and its disturbing monsters, the title directed by Jung Dong Yoon takes the viewer to the spring of 1945, a time when Japanese forces were still occupying Korean territory. In the midst of social and political conflict, Jang Tae Sang (Park Seo Joon) has managed to accumulate wealth with his pawn shop and also has contacts in the highest echelons of Gyeongseong. However, he could lose everything he has as he has been tasked with locating the commissioner’s missing lover before the cherry blossoms wither.

To achieve this, he joins forces with Yoon Chae Ok (Han So Hee) and her father, nomads who are experts in finding people living or dead. All clues point to Ongseong Hospital, a dangerous place according to creepy local rumors. Together they embark on a risky mission to infiltrate, but they also end up facing the forces behind the city’s façade of opulence.

Park describes the series as a fusion of “tension-filled creature encounters and characters deeply rooted in the harsh realities of the time.” But along with the mystery, the proposal adds a touch of romance with the dynamic that arises between the two protagonists. In the last part of the trailer, both exchange a hug and an emotional promise. Jang Tae Sang begs the young woman to stay alive.

In addition to the star duo, the cast adds other important names in the field. Wi Ha Joon (The squid game), Kim Hae Sook (Winter Sonata), Jo Han Chul (Vincenzo) and Claudia Kim (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) participate in the tense survival story whose motto in the main art is: “Fate guides us, but karma follows us.”

Netflix will premiere The monster of old Seoul in two parts. The first batch of episodes arrives on December 22, and the second will be released on January 5.
