Zoe Robledo Aburtogeneral director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS)reported that the federal government invested a total of 196 million pesos in the purchase of 3 thousand 817 million pieces of medicinesgiven the shortage in public health institutions and with it, the opening of the Wellbeing Megapharmacy.

The federal official explained the process of purchasing medicines for the 2023-2024 period, comparing it with what was carried out in the previous six-year term, but without mentioning how suppliers were chosen between 2018 and 2022the first four years of the current government.

Robledo Aburto explained that the recent purchase of medicines was carried out biannually, making a greater opening for more laboratories to participate in the call, as he indicated that in the government of Enrique Peña Nieto only 10 companies benefited, of which three had most of the contracts.

“The participation of the laboratories was much greater, 334 companies participated and the result was the largest purchase ever made in the history of our country, a total of 196 million pesos to acquire 3,817 million pieces of medicines.” In addition, the 10 companies that won are laboratories, including Reagent and Biologicals of Mexico, Birmex,” he said at the National Palace.

According to what was presented by Zoé Robledo, the laboratories that sold medicines to the federal government for the IMSS, ISSSTE and IMSS-Bienestar are:

  • Gilead Sciences Mexico.
  • Birmex.
  • Roche products.
  • Pfizer.
  • Iare from the west.
  • Merck sharp & Dhome.
  • Novartis.
  • Novo nordisk.
  • Sanofi Pasteur.
  • Astrazeneca.
