Faced with the wave of criticism, the Municipality of Lima gave a setback and denounced that the ‘Patitas Abandonadas’ association “They disguised its adoption, when in reality it was informal marketing.”

“The facade is the adoption of the animals, but in reality there is an issue of economic interest involved because they are marketing them and there is a donation issue with certain requirements,” said the Inspection and Control manager, Freddy Quiroz.

Likewise, they mentioned that the puppies were in “poor conditions and exposed to the harsh sun on public roads,” and that they were diagnosed with dehydration and some diseases.

“They have them in boxes, dead from heat, they have them inside backpacks, imagine with the temperature that exists at the moment, they are not interested, what they want is to sell. We as the Municipality of Lima are going to permanently continue with these operations, denouncing the people who are carrying out this activity for animal abuse,” emphasized the manager of Citizen Security, Abdul Miranda.

In response, social media users recalled that the association is registered with the National Superintendency of Public Registries (Sunarp) as non-profit, which is why they called for a defamation complaint to be filed against the Municipality of Lima.
