The Galician elections This Sunday they have once again dyed the community map blue. The PP of Alfonso Ruedawhich saw its absolute majority in danger in the previous days according to the polls, has achieved 40 seats, consequently securing the majority in the Galician Parliament to govern alone. In front, the BNG of Ana Ponton grew again by getting 25 seats, but the collapse of the PSOE of José Ramón Gómez Besteiro (9 seats) and the only deputy from Democracia Ourensana are not enough to form a coalition that removes the leader of the PP from his seat.

With this result, the PP strengthens its power in the Galician region. It is already the fifth absolute majority of the popular thanks to the votes of the voters in the community in which Alberto Núñez Feijóo He was president for 13 years. The now president of the Popular Party at the national level breathes a sigh of relief after a campaign that became complicated in the last hours. Galicia continues to be a bastion for the PP and this is demonstrated by the interactive map that we present below.

The Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) has emerged as the main opposition force by obtaining 25 deputies in the Parliament of Galicia, marking a notable improvement since the results of 2020. This increase represents six additional seats, thus consolidating the BNG with more than 30% of the support of the Galician electorate. On the other side of the scale, the PSdeG-PSOE gets the worst results in its history.

As the vote count progressed, a transfer of seats from the PP to the BNG was evident, while the PSdeG-PSOE experienced a significant loss of support and was left with only nine deputies. The BNG candidate, Ana Pontonthanked his followers for their support and described the results as “extraordinary”although he admitted that his objective of leading the Galician government had not been met.

The rise of the BNG was especially noticeable in the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo, where the party managed to take seats from the PP, and in Pontevedra, where it managed to win two seats from the PSdeG.
