Latam Airlines, in its commitment to continue strengthening air connectivity in Colombia, has planned to increase its offer of seats by 12% in 2024 and mobilize more than 12 million people in the country. To do this, it will have new national and international routes and will strengthen its offer in strategic destinations such as the corporate segments (Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Bucaramanga) and San Andrés. Likewise, the purpose of Latam Airlines is to maintain the percentage of market participation, which is currently at 30%, as indicated by the company’s executive director in Colombia, Santiago Álvarez. “Grupo Latam’s good business results during 2023 allow us to better navigate the uncertainty that persists in the Colombian market,” stated the head of the airline in Colombia. NEW DESTINATIONS TO CONNECT TO COLOMBIA Starting on March 31, 2024, Latam Airlinies will begin operations from Bogotá to Ibagué, with seven weekly frequencies and will be operated by Airbus 320 aircraft with capacity for 174 passengers, which is expected to have an offer of more than 9,000 seats per month to this destination. Likewise, the airline recently announced that it will operate the Bogotá-Valledupar route during the Vallenata Legend Festival, with the purpose of providing more connectivity options for those attending this event. There will be a total of 12 flights that Latam Airlines will offer, from April 27 to May 7. Faced with this, Álvarez has indicated that they want to continue strengthening air connectivity between Bogotá and the regions, offering passengers a “superior” travel experience, where the personalization and humanization of the service are the protagonists. “Elements such as Wi-Fi on board, in-flight snacks, an excellent miles program and a service culture oriented towards friendliness and closeness are our formula to seek passenger preference,” he highlighted. MADRID, ENTRY POINT TO EUROPE On the international front, by July 2024, the plane will inaugurate its Bogotá-Madrid route, which will be carried out on Boeing 787-8 aircraft, with capacity for 247 passengers. This will operate every day with a total of seven weekly frequencies, at night leaving Bogotá at 10:50 p.m. and arriving in Madrid in the evening, at 3:40 p.m. The return flight will leave Madrid at 5:25 p.m. (Madrid time) to arrive in Colombia at 8:24 p.m. This is the first route offered by Grupo Latam from Colombia to Europe. In this way, Latam Airlines will reach 29 domestic routes and 11 international routes in Colombia, consolidating itself as a strategic player to develop the industry and strengthen the country’s connectivity. In 2023, Latam Airlines had an 8% share of international passengers in Colombia. In 2024 it hopes to increase this figure, leveraging on the ‘joint venture’ that it has had with the North American company Delta Airlines for more than a year. This alliance already has six routes between Colombia and the United States, to key destinations such as Miami, Orlando and New York and using Atlanta as a gateway to multiple domestic destinations in North America.
