Almost one hundred associations and civic forums have called this Saturday for a demonstration to demand the resignation of the president, Pedro Sánchez, after the Amnesty Law for those involved in the Catalan ‘procés’ has taken a new step in its processing. Representatives of the PP, Vox and Ciudadanos will attend the rally, which will be held in Cibeles at 12:00 p.m. The associations, which include Foro Libertad y Alternativa, Neos, DENAES, S’ha Finish and Libertad Sin Ira, among others, focus on “the political, institutional and social deterioration that Spain is suffering since Sánchez is president.” . They believe that this “deterioration threatens to reach a point of no return” and can “drag the country into a prolonged period of severe decline” that “puts at risk” democracy, the well-being of citizens, public peace and the survival of Spain. The organizers, under the slogan ‘There are plenty of reasons, Sánchez resigns!’, attack above all against the agreements of the Government and the PSOE with the pro-independence parties, which include the Amnesty Law, whom they call “heirs of the terrorists who for decades have murdered, tortured and threatened” Spanish citizens. They regret that Sánchez is “captive of all of them” and “willing to do anything to prolong his stay in La Moncloa despite his continuous electoral defeats.” “The dizzying succession of inadmissible decisions, abject agreements and embarrassing justifications aims to anesthetize society, reduce the capacity to react, exhaust the population and, ultimately, make us assume as inevitable a process whose ultimate goal is to perpetuate ourselves in power and exclude of the possibility of access to the government of Spain, at least, to half of its citizens,” they say in a manifesto published on the occasion of the call. THE REASONS Likewise, they charge against “the colonization of institutions, the seizure of the levers of power, the ad hoc elimination of crimes, pardons for government partners, tolerance of the interference of Vladimir Putin’s regime in Spain and the EU, the appointment of members and collaborators of the Executive as Constitutional magistrates or as State Attorney General, the deterioration of parliamentary control with the abuse of the Royal Decree Law and the tricks to curtail debate in the drafting of laws and avoid pronouncement of the competent bodies”. They also mention “the acceptance of the existence of ‘lawfare’, the parliamentary investigation of the judges and their systematic harassment from Parliament, the attempt to corner or discredit the Head of State or any institution that exercises its counterweight function, the cessation of independent officials or senior officials, the comprehensive transfer of sovereign powers such as immigration, the political forgiveness of Catalonia’s debt, the increase in subsidies to unions by 91% since Sánchez took office at La Moncloa or the systematic polarization of society “, in other aspects. The organizers ask society not to attend “impassively and docile” this process of “evident demolition of the rule of law.” “We cannot give up, nor let ourselves be carried away by boredom,” they emphasize, before asking to transform “indignation into rebellion and use all legitimate resources available to defend democratic institutions and the nation,” materialized in the 1978 Constitution. The demonstration, in short, “aims to show that Spaniards are not submissive citizens and that they do not hesitate to demand the resignation of Pedro Sánchez or to denounce this undemocratic ‘deconstitutive’ process that, with deception and concealment, is carried out by the hand of Your partners”. “If we do not manage to stop this process, it will lead us to a long period of decline and loss of freedoms, analogous to that suffered by various Latin American countries that have followed this same path and that announce to us the risks we face,” they warn. BROAD POLITICAL SUPPORT The PP, Vox and Ciudadanos have already confirmed their attendance at the call, as they have done on multiple previous occasions with similar demonstrations. On the part of the ‘popular’, the spokesperson in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, will attend; the Deputy Secretary of Economy, Juan Bravo; the deputy secretary of Health and Education, Ester Muñoz; and the deputy secretary of Mobilization and Digital Challenge, Noelia Núñez. The ‘popular’ spokesperson, Borja Sémper, had already announced that his party would send a “high representation” to the demonstration, although he did not announce specific names. It is known that the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has a meeting on the agenda that day in Córdoba with his territorial ‘barons’, which the party’s general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, also plans to attend. On behalf of Vox, the leader, Santiago Abascal, will attend. The vice president and general secretary, Ignacio Garriga, had already announced his party’s support for the demonstration at the beginning of the week. On the side of Ciudadanos will be the general secretary and the political spokesperson, Adrián Vázquez and Jordi Cañas, respectively. Other regular faces of these calls, such as the former leader of Union, Progress and Democracy (UPyD), Rosa Díez, have also expressed their intention to attend Cibeles.
