This is the episode titled “Marge vs. the Monorail belonging to the fourth season of “The Simpsons”which originally aired in 1993. However, Marge Simpson is skeptical about the usefulness and safety of the monorail, and her fears increase when she discovers that the project is actually a scamdesigned to enrich Lanley at the expense of the citizens’ safety.

The chapter reaches its climax when the monorail, already in operation, presents serious technical failures during its maiden voyage, putting the lives of the passengers at risk. The critical situation requires heroic actions to stop the runaway train.

“Marge vs. the Monorail” is a satirical episode that criticizes corruption, sensationalism and recklessness in the management of public projects. In addition, it is characterized by its sharp humor, absurd situations and cultural references, including a musical cameo by Leonard Nimoy.

However, for Internet users and Mexican fans of the series this episode has now been interpreted as one more of the “predictions”, this time due to the derailment of the Mayan Train.

On Monday, March 26, an incident was reported in which a Mayan Train car derailed near the Tixkokob station, in the state of Yucatán, when it was heading to Cancún, Quintana Roo. This event did not cause any victims or injuries.

The state company in charge of the Mayan Train assured in a statement that, after the incident, the passengers were evacuated safely and effectively. Likewise, they were provided with alternative means of transportation so that they could continue their journey to the popular tourist destination of Cancun.

The next day, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in his morning press conference that the possibility that this event was caused, either by a human error or, even more worrying, for a act of sabotage.

He explained that a necessary track change was omitted, which led to the formation of a commission of investigation to clarify whether the derailment was intentional or simply a failure in the operation of the tracks.

The controversy intensified when on social networks, where critics of the AMLO government began to make allegations of corruption and influence peddling in the construction of said transportation. Some more even remembered that the kings of Sweden Charles XVI Gustavus and Silvia, caused a stir by canceling a trip they had scheduled aboard the Mayan Train during their visit to southeastern Mexico due to criticism of the so-called “death train”.

The launch of the Mayan Train, a 1,554-kilometer line that runs through the Yucatan Peninsula, took place at the end of last year. This project aims to boost the economic growth of the southeast of Mexico, a region that has traditionally been less developed compared to the industrialized north of the country. President López Obrador has repeatedly highlighted the train’s potential to strengthen tourism and the local economy, offering a tour of a region distinguished by its rich biodiversity, as well as its numerous archaeological ruins.

However, the Mayan Train has been the subject of controversy due to environmental concerns raised by groups activists. They have pointed out the negative impact that the construction of the train could have on the environment, including deforestation and contamination of cenotes and underground rivers in the area. The main concern lies in the potential damage to these unique ecosystems, essential for the conservation of the biodiversity and the supply of fresh water in the region.
