During the final of the Russian Cup in parachuting in the Chechen Republic, 45-year-old parachutist Dmitry Belyaev died. The member of the Russian national team had more than 3,700 jumps under his belt, the press service of the Goodsky air training center reported.
The tragedy occurred while piloting a high-speed parachute. Belyaev was performing a landing approach, but made a mistake and did not calculate the altitude of the maneuver. As a result, he collided with the water surface at increased vertical speed.
Doctors and rescuers who were at the competition tried to resuscitate the athlete, but he died.
